Also here via dooce, and glad I came!

I've got a husky that I suspect is half coyote (her father looked suspiciously identical to Charlie). She is the joy of my life and never ceases to provide entertainment.

I look forward to reading about your adventures. :) Have a great weekend!

That makes 3 for the Dooce flock. I don't know what I enjoy more, the story or the photos...kind of the same things, though! LOVELY story you are telling with pictures alone. This would make such a neat published book. Hmmm....

Another Dooceite, here.

I love this blog. I imagine there aren't many guides to raising a coyote pup, but it looks like you've got a good handle on it. Have you ever read Prodigal Summer by Barbara Kingsolver? One of the main story lines follows a woman forest ranger who is concerned with protecting a den of coyotes. I found it fascinating!

Dooce again :-)

I'm in love with Charlie!

Shreve, I love the pic - very nice. Light, setting, great! I can't wait for my 2008 calendar!

FYI - I've read Dooce for years (though I didn't find you through her blog), and she had to turn off comments eventually because of the comment wars that would start. Now she selectively turns on comments. Just so you know - the trolls will follow, and they can be *vicious*.

wow, you are totally living my dream...i've always wanted to raise a wolf pup although yes, i am aware that charlie is a coyote. he is absolutly stunning and you are a great person for taking him in. i agree with servana though...the more people that will flock here, the more nasty mean people that just want to ruin your day will too. but all you have to do is look at charlie and you'll know you made the right decision :)

p.s- also found you through the wonderful wonderful dooce

i can't get over how spectacular this photo is. charlie is gorgeous, as is your eye for a terrific shot.

hope i can order a copy of this.

Amazing pics. I live in a rural area where we see coyotes periodically, but are fascinated by them each and every time we spot one. I will be reading, often. Oh yeah I found you through Dooce.

Your writing is very touching, and your pictures are lovely. :) I wonder how things will turn out as Charlie grows older.

Also here from Dooce, her recommendations are almost always excellent and your blog is no exception. Would love to hear more about how you are taking care of Charlie - how you feed him, is he litter box trained (or is that just for your cat???), etc. Good luck, will check back often (and very very very nice picture today - just beautiful).

Dooce strikes again. I am SO in love with Charlie I can hardly stand it.

What a lucky, lucky little coyote and what a lucky, lucky woman. I can't wait to hear more stories of the Eli/Charlie connection.

What an amazing story to read with stunning photos.

I live on a farm and even after 3 of our cats went missing due to coyotes, I can't help but think you're doing a wonderful thing. They only act on what they know, so they aren't doing anything 'wrong'. I'm also interested to hear, though, about the fear of him with your kitty as he gets older.

I am going to be a daily visit as well (here through dooce) and I have a feeling I'm going to be rather connected and feel this story tug at my heart strings, especially when the decision comes for his ultimate future. Good luck, to the both of you, and thanks for sharing!

Your blog was linked on my friends list at LiveJournal... your photographs are gorgeous, and Charlie is amazing (Eli too, what a great cat!). I've never had an opportunity to see a coyote except at a running distance, and I can't describe the feeling.

Thank you for sharing your experiences.

This shot put a lump in my throat -- it's absolutely gorgeous.

Just wondering what precautions you take when venturing out with him, since there's evidently coyote hunting in your area. Are you planning to release him at some point, or can I rest easy knowing that he'll live out his life safe and sound with you? ;)

(Also found you on Dooce.)

Hi, My cousin just sent your link to me! It's just amazing!! Your photos and recounts about Charlie show your love and adoration for him! You are an amazing photographer and I have enjoyed looking through all of the photos.. I am sending this link to all my friends who will love Charlie's story!! I think it's wonderful... that you have raised him and formed a bond with a beautiful animal from the wild... God bless you!! Leesa

Liz said...

Have you considered putting a brightly colored bandanna or shirt on him that may make him look more like a dog rather than a wild coyote? Then again, I don't know if that would draw more attention to him and increase the possibility of him being hurt.

These are stunning pictures- you should really submit them into competitions.

I read a book called "God's Dog" It is a history & study of Coyotes in the west.It is a true and sad at times, story.I would give you the author except I lent it to a friend who never returned it.I believe the book would give you a better insight into raising your charge.I love your photography.

BorderCollieMom said...

I am going to ask the friend for the book back and if I get it I would love to send it to you, I am in Eagle, Colorado (God's Dog)It is written by a Doctor who fought in congress to stop persecution & execution of coyotes....

I Have a question. I am assuming from more recent posts that this picture was taken with a digital camera but it really looks almost as if it could be shot with infared film, is it?

Gorgeous either way.
