My two corgis have played with cow pattie frisbees so much that my yard has bright patches of green where the frisbees have broken apart and decomposed over time. They're always very proud to bring their dung toys home in hopes that we'll spend hours tossing and fetching.
Laura, Shreve explains several times throughout the blog that she didn't start the site until after she had Charlie for 5 or 6 months. She updates only daily, which means the site is about 5 or 6 months behind.
Laura - I just re-read my comment and I sound snottier than I intended. Sorry. I should have said MY interpretation is that the updates are also behind. I'll keep my yap shut and wait and see if Shreve answers. :) PS Shreve - if you are reading, this is a wonderful thing that you are doing. Thanks for sharing. Coyotes are in IL (where I'm from) and they scare me, but I certainly see their beauty!
Reminds me of last winter when my retriever bloodhound mix puppy decided to bring in her ice toy and let it slide across the kitchen floor to hit the stove.
What I thought was a chunk of ice turned out to be a big pile of frozen poo with a layer of ice. I had a good laugh over the frozen poo toy!
I'll bet that's not a cow patty at all! Is it like... a bison patty? An elk patty? EEE! he does look rather pleased with himself.
I'm completely obsessed with Charlie and your life in your cabin. I wish we could trade. Keep posting all the gorgeous pics, please, I'm waiting to see if Charlie grows into his feet and his EARS!
I'm assuming the google ads help pay for this site? Were you aware that there is one up currently for "coyote hunting tactics"? There have been others about how to get rid of coyotes. Just thought you should know that it seems like you are endorsing such practices because they are on your site. (Even though from your writings it doesn't seem like you would ever do so.)
I guess I didn't look at the left side bar before, but the photo of Charlie in snow is breathtaking. He really is beautiful! Thank you for sharing Charlie, Eli, yourself and your story with the rest of us - it is truly a very special privlege.
Sometimes Charlie looks like a dog but sometimes he's all coyote. Either way he's beautiful and I was startled by how much he's filled out when I saw the snow photo. In that, he's definitely all coyote. We occasionally have coyotes around here (Illinois) but ours are all skinny and scrawny, poor dears. Charlie's looking wonderful!
He looks so happy with his poo prize. I read your blog everyday with a window that looks on to more office buildings but I know that the real beauty lies West. Where prairie and sky meet in the great distance. Where coyote, cat(and a dead mouse) can live together and not be at eachothers' throats. Such beauty, that some will never see.
Canines love poo and think it's hilarious to roll around in it. They're dogs. What are you gonna do? And it generally is funny...except when they find the stinkiest pile of cat poo...at 1:00am...when mommy has the flu...
What a riot! I would love to have some sort of coyote cam attached to his collar, just to see the things he gets into day in and day out. I really appreciate you sharing these creatures with us all. It makes my day to see your gorgeous photos and read your stories. What an inspiration. Thank you!
Oh my goodness - that photo of Charlie in the snow? It's like a senior photo of a baby cousin you haven't seen in years and you can't believe how filled out, grown up and HANDSOME they've gotten. He's come a long way from the gangly legged little critter we're still reading along with. Gorgeous, gorgeous shot.
Hmm, I have a poop story. One dog stole an entire COSCO jerky treat bucket and we had massive diarrhea in the yard right before a 30 below stretch last winter. I didn't even want to look at it till one of the dogs came running in carrying..whats that...is it bark? NOOOOoooooooooooo.
Hi, this wouldn't be do great in the UK where all animal popop is usually sloppy - but my dogs would have afield day playing with Charlie in his territory
Every time I think "Ooh, that's my favorite photo of the bunch!" another and better one comes along. And so it is again. (Charlie is sooo pleased with himself!)
You, Eli and Charlie are blessings to each other. Your heart, humor, photographic skills and way with words are a blessing to the rest of us. Thank you for sharing this singular adventure. May it continue to be a fine life for you all, whether Charlie stays with the family or moves out.
I've never noticed that dried cow pies are particularly icky, unless the cows are being fed something gross or are sick. They have very little smell. It's not like human poo.
I've cooked food over fires made from dried cow and buffalo pies. It's clean-burning and pleasant.
I've even smoked the pipe lit with a bit of dried buffalo chip.

Who would have thought poo could be so much fun! LOL
I love the expression on Charlie's face.
Thank you again for sharing him with us. It's a little bit of joy every day.
HAHAHAHAHA, amazing what entertains us dags !!!!
If we can chew it, it needs to be chewed !!!
Oh boy. :| No matter, he's still so adorable! I wonder... what reaction would Charlie have to a Kong full o' peanut butter?! I bet it'd be hysterical.
euuuuuuuuuuuuuuw. do you kiss your momma with that mouth? :)
Hillbilly frisbee is only the best kind of frisbee to play! My cousins and I would do that with my grandmothers dog in Virginia.
Hahaha! Charlie's face says it all.
Is that what I think it is? Ewwww...

Love the photo....
who knew poo could be so much fun? Eww... :)
Love the look on his face...
he is priceless...your story makes me happy...thanks for sharing...
ROFLMAO!!!!
I'll never get that taste out of my mouth.
now to wipe the coffee off my laptop.
Please please please tell me that isn't a cow patty.
Ew ew ew ew....
I'm gonna pretend that's just a big oatmeal cookie.
I think that expression is what is known as a "shit-eating grin" if you'll pardon the language. ;)
Are your "Notes on Charlie" current or are they happening in the past like the pictures?

SPEW ALERT!!!
And all around the world people are, indeed, wiping coffee from their computer screens!
My dogs have a poop hierarchy. It goes like this:
If you can't eat cat poop eat deer poop.
If you can't eat deer poop, eat cow poop.
If you can't eat cow poop, eat horse poop.
If you can't eat horse poop...you're SOL!
Yummy... nothing better than a cow pie except horse poo. My mexi-coydog loves that!
Wonderful expression. And of course this is the way I start my not so interesting day.
It looks like a cookie!
Hmmm tasty.
Hi Charlie! as always buddy you gooorrgous no matter what!
Hey, today I FEEL like a coyote! Even you once said I look like I could indeed be part!
Love Licks, Coyote Ginger or at least in my picture post today. xo

How big is Charlie because he looks really big. Oh, and Aunt Jane says hi.
Well Charlie is always going to be cute Isn't he?
Oh ya, Aunt Jane says Hi.

Look, mama, I got me some poop! Heh heh.
Love that face he's making.

What is it with Canines and poop? My own puppy will eat everything from deer and rabbit poop to his own. Much as I love my baby - Ewww!

Just curious if you have access to a video camera with sound. I would love to see and hear Charlie in action.
Thanks for this blog!

Deep thanks for sharing these moments in your life. Touching and beautiful...
Hi,
this wouldn't be do great in the UK where all animal popop is usually sloppy - but my dogs would have afield day playing with Charlie in his territory
Reminds me of some words of wisdom I once read...In the meadow of life, don't be a cow pie. Words to live by. :)
Every time I think "Ooh, that's my favorite photo of the bunch!" another and better one comes along. And so it is again. (Charlie is sooo pleased with himself!)

Cow pie! How hysterical!
Love your blog.
looks like a cookie, wonder if it tastes like one too? humm?
Can I please send you some tennis balls for him?
Charlie actually looks as though he is smiling! I love it.

All poo is not created equal.
You want fries with that?
Looks like one of those "good for you" cookies from the health food store....
