Awwww! Gorgeous boy! He looks so 'Grown-up-Coyote' now! I love the way those BIIIIG ears stand up and make him look so alert, even when he's apparently fast asleep.
I don't think I've ever seen a picture of a Coyote so comfortable!!
HA! Get used to that! Canines have their ways of getting what they want and then taking things over. My dog has us well-trained to contort our bodies around his when we're all in bed so that he doesn't have to move and thus remains perfectly comfortable. Looks like Charlie's following that instinct now, too.
What more could one ask for, a nice soft, warm bed and a bit of sunshine in their life !!!

looks like my dog. we are in process of trying to train him that sleeping on the couch is in fact more comfortable. so far we are "winning" but we still get the sad eyes when the door to the bedroom is closed.

At some point in the night, I usually wake up to four feet and claws digging into my side because Pablo (my little rat terrier) has decided to ssssssssstreeeeeeeetch his legs out.

my dog does that too. I've learned to sleep diagonally on the bed, and I'm used to having a heavy load on my legs. They're just too cute to push!

I used to have a cat that did that. he'd start of stretched out over the bed, forcing me into a space somewhat narrower than myself. then he'd curl up *right next* to my body, so that I still couldn't move, but there was a great deal of empty space. Never knew coyotes did that too.

Man oh man his coloring is gorgeous. It's the Plains in a study of fur.
At my house, I turn the heat down to 52 at night because I have a floofy down comforter and several cats to keep me warm. Sometimes they keep me SO warm that I have to kick the covers off for a while. And yes, I too lie myself down where they choose NOT to lie. Not the other way around. I hope Charlie is equally contributing to reducing the amount of wood you have to chop. :-)

I have to admit, until I started visiting this blog, I had a very negative view of coyotes. We've lost many neighborhood animals (livestock/pets) and coyotes have been implicated in some of the disappearances.
Your blog is a great service; Charlie is a wonderful coyote embassador for people who are willing to change their minds with better information.

Looking at this picture, I'm thinking of the posts that have advocated "setting Charlie free" so he can return to the wild. I can just hear Charlie's response: "Hey! What the...? No! Shut it up, man! Leave Mama Shreve, Eli and THIS? You kiddin' me...? I get elk and cheese, and Eli even brought me a mouse the other night - a flying mouse, yes, but a mouse all the same."

I've gotta admit, I also had a negative view of coyotes. Gotta remember that we're invading their territory, and they're just doing what comes naturally, taking the easiest prey they can get.
I was just wondering how you all fit in bed together now that Charlie is even bigger than in that picture now. I agree with Jenny, I don't think he'll want to leave such a luxurious life. =) Thank you Shreve, for posting awesome photos that brighten so many people's days. I have always loved animals, but now I see coyotes differently. I'm your age, and I wish I could live out west with a cat and a coyote too. =)

I have two biggish dogs who make a point of getting in bed before I can, so they can choose their favorite spots and I have to contort in between or around them. For some reason, they become much heavier in bed. And yes, I do get "stiff legged", especially by the younger, sassier one.
But my absolute favorite thing is waking up to see four paws sticking up in the air from behind a pile of bedclothes. Never fails to make me smile.

I have two little dogs, and somehow they can take up all the space in my king-sized bed. My husband and I are relegated to the edges. It's all about THEIR comfort. Between Charlie and Eli, you probably have about three square inches of space in the bed!
Charlie is awesomely cute and adorable. I love a coyote that doesn't eat cats and better yet, is beta to a cat.
Time for a dog nest perhaps? Dogs prefer your bed but instinctively take to the nests as an acceptable alternative. Puppies and cats are one thing - but a large dog is another.

I wish I knew what Charlie's fur smells like. That's one of my favorite things...to bury my nose in my dog's fur....he smells like honeyed graham crackers, and that's his natural body odor, not soap.

So very typical of a pampered pet! My parents have two golden retrievers and they had to get a separate bed just for them because they took up the whole of their king-size bed!

Last night there was a pack of coyotes howling up behind our house (live in Mojave Desert in California on 30 acres) and I immediately thought of Charlie.....
Right after I made sure my cat Sonny was in the house.
Our "Charlies" would eat him for dinner.

Lachatte, my dog smells of Johnson's Baby Shampoo. Hehe. And the last time we bathed him, we switched to Lavender scented. He still has some of his doggy funk, which I love.
