How cute! =)
Awwww! Gorgeous boy! He looks so 'Grown-up-Coyote' now! I love the way those BIIIIG ears stand up and make him look so alert, even when he's apparently fast asleep.
I don't think I've ever seen a picture of a Coyote so comfortable!!
HA! Get used to that! Canines have their ways of getting what they want and then taking things over. My dog has us well-trained to contort our bodies around his when we're all in bed so that he doesn't have to move and thus remains perfectly comfortable. Looks like Charlie's following that instinct now, too.
What more could one ask for, a nice soft, warm bed and a bit of sunshine in their life !!!Great photo
ahh, that's so sweet!
I want to cuddle with him, he looks so comfortable.
"My dog has us well-trained to contort our bodies around his when we're all in bed so that he doesn't have to move and thus remains perfectly comfortable."That's sooo typically!:D And they can be soo pushy...the 2 legged has not much choise but do what the 4 legged one wants!:)))Anyways who would say this thing in the bed is a beast? :)
Happy Monday...lucky dawg. ;P
You must wonder what your life in WY would be like if Charlie hadn't entered it.I hope you are considering the calling of Prairie Consultant as I'm one of surely many who are now day dreaming of Heading West Young Woman.Stacy
Hooper and the cats are the same way. When it comes to being on the bed, they're suddenly Gumby.
He's so beautiful! I would love to know more about your day-to-day life. Would you mind posting a day-in-the-life entry of Shreve?
Awww!I just wanna CUDDDLE HEEEM!!!!
looks like my dog. we are in process of trying to train him that sleeping on the couch is in fact more comfortable. so far we are "winning" but we still get the sad eyes when the door to the bedroom is closed.
Does Charlie ever "stiff leg" you in the bed? At some point in the night, I usually wake up to four feet and claws digging into my side because Pablo (my little rat terrier) has decided to ssssssssstreeeeeeeetch his legs out.
Thanking you here for the daily pictures I receive in my e-mail. What a magnificant creature he is becoming! Like many others, I can't wait for the book. Surely, you are planning a book aren't you?
my dog does that too. I've learned to sleep diagonally on the bed, and I'm used to having a heavy load on my legs. They're just too cute to push!
Awww, what a beautiful baby you have.....Give him a kiss for me
I used to have a cat that did that. he'd start of stretched out over the bed, forcing me into a space somewhat narrower than myself. then he'd curl up *right next* to my body, so that I still couldn't move, but there was a great deal of empty space. Never knew coyotes did that too. Beautiful picture.
I had a huskey growing up that thought my bed was really his bed that he let me sleep in. What a sweetie!
He looks so comfortable and sound asleep! So cute! Thanks for sharing!
Hey, there's a coyote in my bed!Always wanted to say that.
Those are some seriously big ears.
Do you ever get the cold-nose-on-the-sole-of-the-foot treatment at, oh, say, 2:30 AM? That'll wake you up!
if Charlie's coyote brethren could see him like this they would be equallyappalled/envious.
"I'll get that road runner tomorrow, today I am tired." Charlie E Coyete
Man oh man his coloring is gorgeous. It's the Plains in a study of fur. At my house, I turn the heat down to 52 at night because I have a floofy down comforter and several cats to keep me warm. Sometimes they keep me SO warm that I have to kick the covers off for a while. And yes, I too lie myself down where they choose NOT to lie. Not the other way around. I hope Charlie is equally contributing to reducing the amount of wood you have to chop. :-)
He's beautiful. I'm glad I found your blog, you capture his spirit in your photographs.
He looks as pretty as your pillows.
Why not, it's HIS bed! At least until the cat wants it back.... ;-)
Kinda makes you a little sad for regular coyotes who have to sleep in less comfy spots.
That's gotta be the first picture of a coyote in a bed!
I'm sure someone else has said this, but you seriously dance with coyotes! May I blog about your site, and borrow a photo for the entry?
Peaceful =)He looks small in the bed ... so sweet.
Sweet dreams, Charlie :)
I have to admit, until I started visiting this blog, I had a very negative view of coyotes. We've lost many neighborhood animals (livestock/pets) and coyotes have been implicated in some of the disappearances.Your blog is a great service; Charlie is a wonderful coyote embassador for people who are willing to change their minds with better information.Thank you!
He is so very handsome. And just like a guy... taking his half of the bed out of the middle. :)
Hi there, Shreve,I really commend what you've done with Charlie. I have one question, though: are you planning to get him vaccinated for rabies, distemper, etc.?Cathryn
ah, the vaunted and patented LONG DOG technique.
Charlie is beautiful, he does not look like he wants to give up the bed any time soon :)Robyn
Oh, that's divine. His tail! His ears! His gangly legs! His soft belly! You must be the size of a dot to be able to sleep with this big boy, Shreve.Looking at this picture, I'm thinking of the posts that have advocated "setting Charlie free" so he can return to the wild. I can just hear Charlie's response: "Hey! What the...? No! Shut it up, man! Leave Mama Shreve, Eli and THIS? You kiddin' me...? I get elk and cheese, and Eli even brought me a mouse the other night - a flying mouse, yes, but a mouse all the same."Jenny in Colorado
well, said jenny in CO.& here's how I imagine the view from the other side of the window...(2 coyotes looking through cabin window)C1: would you lookit that! it's a disgrace...a DISGRACE I tells ya!C2: frikkin'..brickin'...dang Charlie... grumble...lyin' all splayed out like that....grumble, mumble...C1: lyin' on a BED! A BED!! unbelievable! C2: frickin', wrickin'...eatin' elk...DOG FOOD, too!....mumble grumble.... C1: he's hangin'out with a cat fur dawg's sake!....A CAT!!C2: ....WHAAAAA!?!...C1: yup, seen it with my own eyes.C2: mumble....grumble...C1:....digraceful....C2: ....bed does look kinda' comfy, tho...C1: shut up & quit hogging that mole carcass.C2: *baroo*
"The first bed was too hard. The second bed was too soft. But this bed is JUST right!" Charlie brings a whole new light on the Three Bears story!
I've gotta admit, I also had a negative view of coyotes. Gotta remember that we're invading their territory, and they're just doing what comes naturally, taking the easiest prey they can get.
I was just wondering how you all fit in bed together now that Charlie is even bigger than in that picture now. I agree with Jenny, I don't think he'll want to leave such a luxurious life. =) Thank you Shreve, for posting awesome photos that brighten so many people's days. I have always loved animals, but now I see coyotes differently. I'm your age, and I wish I could live out west with a cat and a coyote too. =)
Thank you so much for the picture of Charlie in the snow (see the questions side bar)...it's amazing and it's now my computers desktop.
.....So much for big, fierce coyotes......:)
Just seen the pic of Charlie in the snow, I'm blown away. It's stunning.
Mmm, that sounds like a good idea.
Man, I could really use a nap now. I have two biggish dogs who make a point of getting in bed before I can, so they can choose their favorite spots and I have to contort in between or around them. For some reason, they become much heavier in bed. And yes, I do get "stiff legged", especially by the younger, sassier one.But my absolute favorite thing is waking up to see four paws sticking up in the air from behind a pile of bedclothes. Never fails to make me smile.
Hi, Shreve-- Hope I'm not nagging, but I'm a magazine writer and would love to do a story on you and Charlie. Sent you an email late last week and wondered if it might be languishing in your spam folder. Any interest?
Remarkable photo - the juxtaposition of the coyote and the embroidered pillow ...
I love the silky girly pillow against the rustic log cabin. What a contrast! And of course Charlie is supercalifragilicious too. You guys make my day!Jax
I am wondering if his fur is oily and stinky.
I can just picture, with his long legs, sleeping comfortably together must be quite a challenge when Charlie decides to stretch out :)
Said Red Riding Hood, "Grandmother. What big ears you have."
I am completely smitten with Charlie! I bet he's a good cuddler.I have two little dogs, and somehow they can take up all the space in my king-sized bed. My husband and I are relegated to the edges. It's all about THEIR comfort. Between Charlie and Eli, you probably have about three square inches of space in the bed!
Charlie is awesomely cute and adorable. I love a coyote that doesn't eat cats and better yet, is beta to a cat.
Time for a dog nest perhaps? Dogs prefer your bed but instinctively take to the nests as an acceptable alternative. Puppies and cats are one thing - but a large dog is another.
That made me think of this:http://tinyurl.com/3e3qlx
Ohhhhhhhhh, so comfy. Aww.
I wish I knew what Charlie's fur smells like. That's one of my favorite things...to bury my nose in my dog's fur....he smells like honeyed graham crackers, and that's his natural body odor, not soap.
with your permission, may i use this photo to use on my blog?
I will mention your blog and Charley in my blog tomorrow (Tuesday) and I hope some of my friends get to meet some of your friends.Abraham Lincoln
Beautiful colors & lighting!
So very typical of a pampered pet! My parents have two golden retrievers and they had to get a separate bed just for them because they took up the whole of their king-size bed! What an absolutely beautiful creature. Perhaps this will change people's minds about how "terrible" coyotes can be...
I wonder about his scent too. Does he smell like a dog, do you bathe him at all??
This is so sweet!
So.... How comfortable is the Coyote Pillow?
It's a coyote's life!
Last night there was a pack of coyotes howling up behind our house (live in Mojave Desert in California on 30 acres) and I immediately thought of Charlie.....Right after I made sure my cat Sonny was in the house. Our "Charlies" would eat him for dinner. Love your blog!
now THAT is a safe, secure and comfy coyote :)
Oh, what a beautiful coyote laddie! And how very *lucky* / blessed you all are. :)
Oldmanlincoln brought me here! I should say THANKS to him and especially to you! What a story! Your pictures, your messages...! I'm in complete admiration of Charlie, of you... ! One of the best and most interesting blogs I have ever visited! Your life with Charlie is a real novel! (I will be back, if you don't mind!)
hello therei found your blog through http://brookvilledailyphoto.blogspot.com/what a really kind person you are, i'd lost hope that there were any nice people left in this world, but you've proved me wrong, what a really wonderful thing you have done. Please ignore anyone being negative towards what youre doing for charlie and think of the lovely comments you've received from the nice people here.he's a beautiful little man with hopefully a long and lovely life with his little ginger friend and his very kind mom good on you girl, youre an inspiration !!!
This looks like a very special animal (or is it your pet?) to me, nice photograph, I love animal in every way, sie or colour...
What a great picture!! I just want to curl right up next to him!
I'd much rather sleep with my animals that my humans...Great photo!
Please write a book. I need something to read. Your notes and photos already make me want to get the hell out of this office, so I bet a book would physically carry me to the prairie.
I want to echo the request for more of your words, Shreve. I know you are busy, busy, busy with your job, taking care of Charlie and Eli, and mouse flinging. But I love to read your words almost as much as I admire your pictures.
Great Job Girl,,Charlie looks Great and Happy.
Oh my gosh, what a life! He's beautiful.
Lachatte, my dog smells of Johnson's Baby Shampoo. Hehe. And the last time we bathed him, we switched to Lavender scented. He still has some of his doggy funk, which I love. Charlie looks so cozy you could imagine him being bathed in baby shampoo too.
aww. lurvely! ;)
Love that baby...Always ! He sure looks like my long haired Chihuahua with ears the size of Rhode Island. My bed partner, my best friend.
